How should I prepare for the health checkup?

A quick note about our role: Bloom helps coordinate referrals, scheduling, and communication, but your examination and medical care are provided directly by the licensed medical professionals at KMI. The preparation instructions below are based on guidance from their medical team.

Your appointment is booked, your health-checkup package is selected and your trip to Korea is coming together. Now it’s time to prepare.

Most of the preparation is straightforward: confirm your fasting time, check what to do with your medications, bring your passport and let KMI know about anything that could affect your examinations. But the exact instructions depend on what is included in your package, particularly if you are having gastroscopy, colonoscopy or stool testing.

Health checkup preparation checklist

Start by checking which examinations are included

Not everyone needs to prepare in the same way. A general blood test requires much less planning than a health checkup that includes sedated endoscopy or colonoscopy.

Before your appointment, review your package and confirm whether it includes:

  • Gastroscopy / Colonoscopy / Stool testing
  • Women’s health screening

Gastroscopy / Colonoscopy / Stool testing

If you are having gastroscopy, colonoscopy or an M2-PK stool test, read our separate KMI gastroscopy, colonoscopy and stool-test preparation guide. This guide includes the clinic documents for each procedure.

A colonoscopy requires the most advance planning. You will need to collect the bowel-preparation kit from KMI and follow the clinic’s dietary and medication schedule. Do not leave this until the night before your appointment.

Women’s health screening

Your menstrual cycle, pregnancy status and breastfeeding can affect the timing of certain examinations.

Based on the clinic’s current guidance, urine testing and cervical screening are preferably scheduled approximately five to seven days after your period ends. For cervical screening, avoid intercourse and vaginal medications or suppositories for at least 24 hours beforehand, since they can affect the sample.

If you are using prescribed vaginal medication, do not stop it on your own. Tell us what you are using and we can ask whether the screening should be rescheduled.

Also let Bloom know if you are pregnant, could be pregnant or are breastfeeding. This does not necessarily mean your entire health checkup must be cancelled. The medical team can review your package and confirm which examinations can proceed, which may need to be modified and which should be postponed.

Confirm your medication instructions in advance

If you take prescription medication or supplements, send the complete list to Bloom before your appointment.

Do not stop, delay or change any medication on your own. This is especially important for medicines that affect bleeding, blood sugar or blood pressure. The correct instructions depend on the medication, dose, examinations in your package and your health history.

We’ll send the information to the clinic so its medical team can confirm what to take, what may need to be paused and when it can be restarted.

Also tell us if you have previously reacted to medication, sedation or contrast dye, have a relevant medical condition or have loose teeth or dental work that could be affected by an endoscopy mouthpiece.

The day before your KMI health checkup

Based on KMI’s current general preparation guide, patients are typically asked to have a light dinner before 8:00 p.m. and begin fasting at 9:00 p.m. Your exact fasting instructions may differ depending on your appointment time and examinations, so follow the directions KMI provides for your package.

Fasting may include water, other drinks, gum and candy, not only food. If anything is unclear, ask Bloom before the fasting period begins so we have time to confirm it for you.

The day before your appointment:

  • Avoid alcohol and strenuous exercise
  • Follow the clinic’s instructions about smoking
  • Complete any separate colonoscopy preparation
  • Remove jewellery and any nail polish or decorations requested for endoscopy
  • Try to get a full night’s sleep

KMI process last confirmed: August 2026.

The day of your checkup

Continue fasting until the medical team tells you that you can eat and drink. Take medication only according to the personalized instructions you received.

Bring your passport, any requested medication information, relevant medical records and anything you normally rely on, such as glasses or hearing aids.

Tell the team if your health or medication has changed since booking. Remind them about allergies, previous reactions, pregnancy or possible pregnancy where applicable.

If your package includes sedation, do not plan to drive afterward. Arrange a taxi or public transportation and follow the clinic’s instructions about whether someone should accompany you.

Avoid scheduling an important meeting, flight or demanding activity immediately afterward. Fasting, testing and sedation can leave you feeling tired even when everything goes smoothly.

A final check before you go

Before leaving for KMI, make sure you have:

  • Confirmed which examinations are included
  • Sent KMI your medication and supplement list
  • Received personalized medication instructions
  • Followed the fasting time provided for your appointment
  • Completed any bowel or stool-test preparation
  • Packed your passport
  • Told KMI about pregnancy, menstruation, breastfeeding, allergies and previous medication reactions
  • Arranged transportation if sedation is planned

Preparing properly helps your examinations proceed as planned and gives KMI the best chance of obtaining useful results. If anything in the instructions feels unclear, contact Bloom before your appointment. We’ll check directly with the KMI team so you don’t have to guess.
