Supplements 101

Ladies, let’s talk supplements! 🌿 With so many options out there, it can be confusing to know what’s worth taking and when.

As a nutritionist, here are my top dos and don’ts:

✅ DO look for third-party tested supplements from trustworthy sources like USP, NSF or ConsumerLab. Quality matters! Bloom will be releasing our top recommended fertility supplements soon.

❌ DON’T buy supplements with unnecessary fillers, artificial colors/sweeteners (gummy vitamins), very low-cost, budget store brand supplements or from major pharmaceutical brands like Centrum (owned by Pfizer), which have been involved in controversies over false claims and use low-quality, poorly absorbed nutrient forms.

✅ DO consider supplementing during egg production, fertility treatments and pregnancy. Your nutrient needs increase, so even a balanced diet may need a boost.

But remember…

❌ DON’T rely solely on supplements. Whole foods like fruits, veggies, lean proteins and healthy fats should be the foundation of your diet. Supplements can’t replicate all those amazing nutrients!

💫 Timing is also key for maximum absorption. For example, fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, K) are best taken with a meal containing healthy fats.

🔬 Get tested! Speak to a nutritionist about identifying any personal nutrient gaps or deficiencies. For example, if you have high inflammations or digestive issues, those gaps should be addressed first and foremost. If you have dietary restrictions or have health issues, you may need supplements to fill those gaps.
